Cheerleader Craft Ideas

    Megaphone Decorating

    • Megaphones don't cost much, especially the ones that are just decorative and not functional. These can be bought at most craft, hobby, and party supply stores. Whether you use real megaphones or replica ones, get the team together with a few healthy snacks and some music, and have a decorating party.

Use tacky glue, glitter glue tubes, rhinestones, sequin strips, felt letters, and anything else you can gather to embellish your megaphones. Ideas include spelling out each cheerleader's name on their megaphone, spelling out your team name on the megaphones, or putting spirit phrases on them.

Be sure to let the megaphones dry at least 24 hours before trying to use them so that they don't get damaged.

    Shirt Crafts

    • T-shirts are another fun, inexpensive cheerleader craft, but they can also be functional. Decorated shirts can be worn before games, to fundraisers, at pep rallies, at cheerleading camp, and at other team functions.

Start with blank T-shirts of any style you choose, from regular cap-sleeved tees to tank top style tees. It will give your team a more uniform look if each cheerleader has the same style and color T-shirt. You can use glitter glue tubes, tacky glue and rhinestones, or iron-on letters to decorate your cheerleader shirts.

Let the shirts dry at least 24 hours before you wear or wash them.

    Game Bags

    • Making game bags is a cheerleader craft that works especially well for cheerleading squads that cheer for a sports team. Game bags are decorated gift bags filled with small trinkets, candy or gifts that cheerleaders exchange with each other before games.

Write each cheerleader's name on a piece of paper and have them each draw out a name; the name they pick will be the person they make a game bag for. Provide inexpensive, blank gift bags-which can be bought at most craft, hobby, and party supply stores-and embellishments such as stickers, glitter glue, markers, colored pens, and stick-on decals.

Cheerleaders can either buy their own small, inexpensive gifts to fill their game bags, or the team's coach can provide them.
