With guest rooms becoming almost nonexistent in most modern homes and space often being at premium, families who occasionally have overnight guests often face a dilemma of how to provide bed space for their guests.
Due to this dilemma many families are rediscovering the space saving trundle bed.
A trundle bed is usually a slightly smaller than a bunk bed that fits under a bunk bed, so that it does not take up space when it is not in use.
They usually have castors or slides that make pulling them out without strain easy.
Many of them can be raised to the height of a regular bunk bed.
You can purchase a trundle/bunk bed set together or you can purchase a trundle frame and mattress separately to use with one you already own.
When purchasing a trundle bed separately from the bunk bed make sure that your bunk stands high enough off the floor that the trundle and mattress can easily fit under it.
Trundle beds are especially nice for the bedrooms of children or teens as it provides a place for their friends to sleep over while not taking up space on a permanent basis.
Many families also place a trundle bed under a day bed in the family room to provide extra sleeping space for adult company.
Since most beds are comprised of a box like frame which the mattress fits into, when the mattress is removed, the bed itself can serve as a general storage drawer for linens, extra towels or even sweaters or toys.
Since a trundle bed fits snugly under a twin bed in a space that is seldom utilized it can prove to be the perfect solution for families who need extra sleeping space from time to time but, simply do not have the room for a permanent bed in their home.
