Just before summer time arrives you may think about fishing for walleye, lake trout, and great northern pike.
The best place to hunt these amazing fish is out at northern remote lodges where over fishing is not a problem.
However there are challenges at these remote places.
Usually pike like to head to the shallow waters where the ice will be thin.
Sometimes you may even see them but they won't take any bait that you toss at them.
Since pike are somewhat of a negative attitude fish, it's usually best to fly fish for them.
If you've never fly fished in your life, you can learn or try something a bit different.
I like to use spinning baits with regular fly bait combined.
It's pretty difficult to cast with that alone so you may want to have a heavy float attached a couple feet above your bait.
This will allow you to cast the distance you need and to stay safe from the uncertain ice.
The best way to use the spin tackle is to retrieve it slowly.
Since you have the float as well, you can stop and twitch your line to help entice the northern pike.
At this time of year, combined with their massive weight, they will be a bit slower and will think twice before attempting any type of bait.
Fishing is becoming more and more popular as a sport.
As a result lodges are seeing an increase of fly fishermen and first timers.
Make sure to bring your camera because watching some of the professional fly fishermen is simply amazing.
Remember, no matter how professional you are the spinner fly combo tackle will always do the trick.
