- 1). Tip the refrigerator to look underneath and locate the leveling screws. There should be two in the front and two in the back on either corner. If you are unable to find them, most likely they have rusted out or were lost over the years. You should see at least the holes where the screws attached to the refrigerator and can order replacement leveling legs from stores that carry parts for vintage appliances.
- 2). Place a level on top of the refrigerator and set all the legs to be flush with the base of the refrigerator. Adjust the screws by turning them clockwise with a wrench to raise the refrigerator slightly to reach a side-to-side level reading. Spray the screws with a little lubricant to help make them turn a little easier and to prevent future rusting.
- 3). Turn the level to sit from front to back and adjust the front legs slowly until the front of the refrigerator is half a bubble higher than the back of the refrigerator, which will ensure that the doors swing shut more easily than they swing open.
