Blinds are increasingly replacing traditional curtains in many households today. If you are contemplating having some in your home there are some factors to consider before making your purchase. Remember that having just the right pieces will add style and compliment your home décor in a big way so you always want to get it right.
Horizontal Vs vertical blinds
When it comes to shapes, it's either vertical or horizontal. The vertical ones swoop down to the floor and are great for long windows. They are a nice fit on a verandah or balcony glass panes. Their long design enhances the look of a rooms' height making it look taller. The horizontal ones can be used on narrow windows to make them look wider. They are also great for windows that aren't too big.
Color
When it comes to color, it's all about matching the room's décor. Do you want your room to look lighter or darker? Pay a lot of attention to the colors of your wall and furniture. The color should compliment that of the others. Also remember that the sun's light will be shinning through them and casting a glow into your house. White is a favorite for living rooms and kitchens. These are rooms we spend a lot of time during the days and therefore want a lot of light in. Blue is nice for a babies' and children's rooms while darker colors such as maroon, brown and red can be used in the bedroom where not much light will be needed.
Material
There are quite a number of materials available in the market today. The top priority should be for something that cleans easily. Aluminum, faux wood and vinyl are the easiest to clean. They are therefore best suited for rooms where the windows will be open most times and dust will be a factor. When considering material, also remember some materials will obstruct light or change color such as natural wood.
Child safety
Preventing injury and accidents. Keeping the young ones out of harm's way should never be forgotten even when it comes to covering our windows. This is especially so when looking for something to drape over the nursery or children's rooms. The cords used to close or open the slats can pose a risk to the little ones. To be on the safe side, make sure to buy a make that has proper safety features. You might also want to always keep the cords tied somewhere up so that they are out of reach.
