Country Music Single Releases - Week of February 5, 2007
Lonestar - "Nothing to Prove"
This song has a story that is sort of similar to Kenny Chesney's "The Woman With Me." In this case the man tells the woman she has nothing to prove to him. He loves her for who she is. This is your typical Lonestar power ballad, which is what they do best. I like it!
Kellie Pickler - "I Wonder"
This autobiographical song is a big departure from the first fun-loving party girl single "Red High Heels." It's about when she was a young girl, her mother left her with her grandparents to raise.
So sad, but beautifully sung.
Jason Aldean - "Johnny Cash"
This is the first single to his upcoming sophomore release. I was expecting it to have a Johnny Cash type of sound to it, but it doesn't. It's very country rock. The only reference to Johnny Cash is that they're listening to him on the radio in the lyrics. Looking forward to hearing the rest of Jason's sophomore album.
John Anderson - "A Woman Knows"
John Anderson has an unmistakable voice, and this is a pretty little mid-tempo tune about the sad subject of a cheating husband. This is from his upcoming album, Easy Money.
Lantana - "Let Somebody Love You"
If you're a fan of harmonies like SHeDAISY or Little Big Town, this will be right up your alley. While not overly country, it's a beautiful song, and this Texas trio has got a great sound.
Jerrod Niemann - "I Love Women (My Momma Can't Stand)"
Hey, this song has a great "Waylon" sound. Jerrod has a great voice too. If radio will play this, I think Category 5 may be the next small label with a big hit.
Not sure if this is a No. 1, but it's definitely a Top 10. Lots of fun!
