Perhaps you can make partial payments or have your missed payments added to the end of your loan.
Call your lender and ask them what is the best way for you to handle this with them.
Keeping an open line of communication with them will benefit you in the long run.
Talk to the "Negotiator" working on your case.
Talking to dozens of others has little effect.
When you are routed elsewhere, just keep asking for your negotiator; get a name early on if you can.
If you have to stiff someone, stiff the credit card companies in order to pay your mortgage.
The worst that can happen is for you to get a negative credit mark on your credit if you stiff them, but if you do not pay your mortgage you can lose your house, and possibly not be able to buy another one for a long time.
If you are able to, refinance your house.
It is a great time to refinance because the interest rates are at all-time lows.
You may even lower your monthly payment.
Refinancing will give you a breather as well because you skip the first month's payment and then pay the following month, paying only the interest to the end of the month at the time of closing.
Then too, contact your loan company and start talking about loan modification so you can pay a lower payment every month.
The whole country is having a tough time right now so the banks are willing to get creative with you and begin the process for loan modification.
You must think in terms of protecting the roof over your head above all else.
If you do not, it will be hard to buy your next house.
