So how do you stay motivated? Well first let's just check in with what is going on physically with yourself because lack of motivation can happen for many different reasons.
First off, are you giving yourself enough recovery time?? Make sure you are not overtraining.
You should give yourself a minimum of two days recovery for each muscle group you work.
For example, if you work your back and biceps one day, wait a couple of days before you work those muscles again.
You will not be as sore and the muscles will have time to grow and repair.
Second, have a look at your diet.
Are you getting enough protein and complex carbohydrates for the amount of time you work out as well as your weight.
Add lots of veggies and fruit to your diet to give you some added energy and don't forget those good fats that are essential to your diet as well as foods which contain fiber.
Make sure you are eating those 5-6 smaller meals each day -it will increase your metabolism and will help to ensure that you don't give into those cravings that we all have when we have waited too long to eat in between meals.
Don't forget to drink plenty of water too! Thirdly, make sure you are getting a good night sleep.
7-8 hours is what you're aiming for.
Muscles grow when at rest and a good nights sleep could be the difference between upping your weight or not.
Also sleep most definitely will affect your performance at the gym.
If you are tired then you may not be able to lift as much weight as usual or not do as many reps, and you do not want to risk injury either.
You should wake up feeling well rested and alert in the morning as opposed to feeling sluggish.
If you are on track with all of these then make sure you change up your workout -go for a walk, a hike or a bike ride or even take a few days off.
If you've been working out hard then you could just change up the pace of your workout by breaking it up with a Yoga or Stretch class and then go back to your weight training routine.
When you do reach your goals or overcome a plateau, don't forget to reward yourself.
Buy some new music, or new workout wear or better yet treat yourself and those hardworking muscles to a massage!
