How to Remove Black Stains From a Stainless Steel Cooktop

    • 1). Spray the black stains with glass cleaner. Spray until the spots are completely saturated.

    • 2). Scrub the black spots with a clean cloth.

    • 3). Squeeze a drop of liquid dish soap onto the black stains, if they are still visible.

    • 4). Scrub the liquid dish soap into the spots with a nylon scrub brush.

    • 5). Spray white vinegar over the stains, if they are still visible. Let the vinegar sit on the stains for at least five minutes.

    • 6). Scrub the vinegar into the spots to remove as much of them as possible.

    • 7). Add just enough water to 2 tbsp. baking soda to make a thick paste, if you can still see the black spots.

    • 8). Scrub the baking soda paste into the black spots. Work along the grain of the stainless steel to ensure you don't scratch it with the slightly abrasive powder.

    • 9). Rinse the area with water, and dry it completely to prevent water marks.
