As many people today have issues with unwanted or excessive hair, there has to be medical options for them to treat this particular cosmetic issue. If there are various cosmetic or surgery procedures like nose lift, face lift, blepharoplasty, liposuction or liposculpture and wrinkle injections to modify our physical and facial features, there has also to be procedures that will allow people to get rid of hair. Thanks goodness there are two cosmetic medical options: laser hair removal and electrolysis.
Lasers and electrolysis are two well-known hair removal procedures that work on most body areas. These two procedures can look the same but each of them is different from the other. Many cosmetic clinics have been offering electrolysis for many years while the laser procedure is a relatively new technology that is fast gaining acceptance. What will be the best procedure for you?
Electrolysis
In this procedure, your doctor or specialist will insert a very thin sterile needle (a probe) into every hair follicle and send shortwave radio frequency (or low level electric current) to the root of your hair to destroy the follicle. A series of electrolysis treatments will weaken the hair and gradually it will get thinner and stop growing. This procedure works effectively against light and dark hair. Like a tattoo session or injection, the needles need to be replaced and disposed after use.
Electrolysis is more painful than laser hair removal. One session will involve about 15 to 20 pricks which is equivalent to one laser session. You will have to undergone about 15 to 30 visits to your clinic to experience the maximum results of electrolysis as this is a very tedious and painstaking procedure focusing on one hair follicle at a time.
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal makes use of long or short pulsating light beams. The laser light beams pass through your skin to a hair follicle. The laser then produces heat to kill the melanin in the hair, thus damaging the follicle and stopping the production of hair. The effects of lasers will vary from patient to patient and your specialist will have to choose the right lasers that suit your skin. Because lasers target the melanin in dark hair, the procedure works well against dark hair on a light skin and not the other way round.
A laser hair removal treatment is less painful than a waxing session but more than tweezing or using depilatory creams. The effects of pain will greatly depend on your pain tolerance. Most patients who have undergone the procedure did not feel much pain which they liken it to a prick of an ant and the usual level of pain can also be like a rubber band snapping against the skin. A laser session will not take long, usually about 10 minutes (in contrast to 30 minutes for electrolysis) and about 4 to 6 visits.
Whatever your choice of procedure, be it be laser hair removal Adelaide or electrolysis, make sure you discuss your options with a licensed specialist.
