How to Pass the Real Estate Test

    • 1). Contact your local state board or association of REALTORS® for the recommended information about exam preparation. State license laws change frequently so it's important to make sure you have the most up-to-date information.

The National Association of REALTORS® website has links to individual states where you can find recommended educational resources.

    • 2). Determine if there are any courses that are a prerequisite for taking the exam. Take any required courses before attempting to prepare for the real estate licensing exam.

    • 3). Identify your preferred format for study. Courses and exam preparation materials are available as in-classroom study at local colleges, by mail correspondence, or via online programs.

    • 4). Plan your study time accordingly. Follow the time commitment the provider recommends to absorb the material, and be sure to consider your work and social obligations. A realistic schedule that you can keep is imperative.

    • 5). Study diligently. The real estate test covers a wide range of information that you will likely find challenging. You should follow the course of study as outlined by your provider, and allow enough time to go back over information that you don't fully understand. There is no substitute for the careful reading and reviewing of required material in order to be fully prepared for the exam.
