I found myself in an all too familiar predicament the other day.
I had just gotten home from the mall and was understandably excited to play the new video game I had just purchased for well over fifty dollars.
I frantically tore off the protective plastic coating, furiously ripped away the plastic seal and was ready to enjoy the fruits of my most recent purchase.
The game started up the same way that they all do while I sat there overcome with the familiar feeling of fevered anticipation.
Finally I had started the game and was about to find out what all the fuss was about.
I spent the next couple of hours in a stupor that I'm sure all gamers know all too well, but not long after the initial rush wore off I found myself already becoming bored with my "new" purchase.
I set it aside, turned off the television, and have not really given it much thought since.
Eventually I realized I spent a large amount of money on one afternoon's worth of gaming fun and I cannot say I was particularly pleased about this.
I fully understand that video games are not meant to be played forever and that even the best ones eventually become dated and boring, but these products should not be priced so high if their value can be measured in mere hours.
Video games can be a great source of entertainment and are a great way to relax after a long day of school or work, but if they continue to be sold at such ridiculously high prices then eventually people are going to realize that it just is not worth it.
The thrill of buying a new release and anticipating playing it while you drive home is a virtually unparalleled experience.
The main problem is the feeling of buyer's remorse that all gamers have once they tire of playing a certain title.
If I am going to spend upwards of sixty dollars on one release then that game should be able to entertain me for a long period of time, a task that a lot of them fall short on.
Video games are overpriced and will eventually become obsolete if they are not more reasonably priced.
There are many leisurely alternatives available in today's world that is much less expensive than video games.
These other activities will soon be replacements for countless people if the pricing problem is not fixed.
