Stretching During Your Flight

Many travelers sit still in their seat for almost their entire flight which can leave them feeling stiff and tired when they arrive in their destination.
There is really no need for this as there are many simple exercises that can be done on the airplane to alleviate stress and to keep you relaxed and loose during your flight.
If you are able to purchase cheap first class airfare you will have a lot of extra room to stretch out, but for those in economy class there are still several ways that you can increase your flexibility during the flight to enable you to feel your best upon your arrival.
Simply taking some time to do some deep breathing is extremely beneficial both physically and mentally.
Start by sitting in a relaxed position and closing your eyes.
Next, inhale deeply and hold your breath for a few seconds before fully exhaling as slowly as possible until all of the air is released.
Pause for a few seconds and then repeat five to ten times.
You will be amazed by how much tension can be released with this simple breathing exercise.
Getting a stiff neck is a common problem when sitting still for long periods of time.
This can be alleviated by doing neck rolls.
Start by sitting comfortably with your spine straight.
Inhale deeply while stretching your head back gently and then allow your head to rotate forwards while you exhale.
Repeat this at least five times and you will feel the difference in your neck tension.
Remember to stay relaxed and do not force your head quickly.
Slow and easy movements are the key to this exercise.
You may find your legs aching during a long flight.
This is caused by minimal movement over a long period of time.
You can counter this problem by doing simple leg stretches while seated.
Press one foot into the floor and bend your other knee while lifting your thigh towards your chest.
Hold this position for about ten seconds while allowing your knee to tilt out to the side.
Next, place your foot back on the floor and do the same stretch with your other leg.
Repeat this exercise ten to twenty times and shake your legs out at the end to release the tension.
Finally, make the effort to get up from your seat regularly and stroll around the airplane.
You'll be amazed by how much this movement will improve the way that you feel both during and after the flight.
For those readers who have purchased cheap first class airfare, you may be enjoying the luxuries of onboard massages and a fully reclining seat.
However, for all of those who are in economy class, these simple exercises will improve your circulation and flexibility to ensure that you arrive in your destination feeling your best every time.
