Take Better Care of Your Furniture - A Little Effort Saves a Small Fortune

Furniture are made out of all sorts of material such as plastic, wood, metal, fibreglass, glass, fabric, leather, etc.
Maintaining your furniture to retain their natural look and make them last longer is essential.
Metal furniture for example doesn't need to be deep cleaned all the time but it's important that your dust it off every day.
Metal polish doesn't work on every type of metal and oftentimes, people don't know that they're damaging the material more than they're maintaining its natural look.
Metal polish works best on brass, chrome and stainless steel.
Avoid using it on gold as it may cause more harm than good.
Metal polish works best on the aforementioned materials, as long as they're not too old and rusty, instead of a damp cloth.
Never use wet cloth to clean metal furniture such as lamps because it will cause the piece to rust faster.
You can use a damp cloth from time to time to remove deep seated dirt.
Leather in general is amongst the most aesthetically pleasing materials to make furniture with.
It's an elegant material that exudes sophistication especially when mixed and matched with the right colors around a room.
Leather is not as hard to clean and maintain although unlike wood, it's much harder to repair so like they say, prevention is better than cure.
Leather usually acquires moulds because of various reasons such as the weather, but mostly because of moisture.
To prevent leather seats such as your sofa to lose its lustre, use a leather conditioner to clean the surface.
Also, leather tends to accumulate more dust in the crevices of the furniture.
To remove dust and other particles, use a vacuum or a soft brush such as a toothbrush and then finish it off with a damp cloth.
Don't forget to dry it off with a dry cloth because leaving it wet will cause it disintegrate faster as water makes the material brittle.
There are better ways to take care of your wood furniture.
Removing scratches from wooden surfaces can be achieved by applying the right amount of oil, such as linseed or lemon-oil.
What the oil does is darken the area that has been damaged thus concealing it.
There are various types of wood furniture such as varnished, wicker, etc.
Knowing what type of furniture you have can allow you to clean it better.
Some wooden furniture doesn't require a lot of water to clean.
Usually, it's just a clean dry cloth to remove dust or wood furniture oil to keep the woods natural elegance.
But what about water stains or paper? Besides using glass coasters to prevent staining your wood furniture, use lemon oil to remove water stains.
For paper, just dab it with a little lemon oil and let it soak for a bit.
After the paper becomes a bit more transparent, just rub it off with your hands.
