How to Fix iPod Mini Retaining Bracket Parts

    • 1). Put the soft towel down on a table. Press the "Play" and "Pause" buttons on the click wheel together to turn the iPod Mini off. Slide the locking switch at the upper right lid of the iPod Mini so that the orange strip is showing.

    • 2). Place the iPod Mini face down on the soft towel. Insert the utility knife between the plastic cover at the top and the casing of the iPod Mini. Wiggle the utility knife's tip into the seam and move the tip of the utility knife around the top until it comes loose. Pull the cover off. Use the Phillips jeweler's screwdriver to remove the two screws that are now revealed in the top.

    • 3). Remove the bottom cover of the iPod Mini in the same fashion as was done for the top cover. Pry the two metal clips at each end of the metal clip bracket now revealed inwards. Remove the copper connector from the bottom by pulling it straight out. Pull the metal retaining clip out and put it down on the towel.

    • 4). Push from the bottom to slide the motherboard out through the top of the iPod Mini. Put the motherboard down on the soft towel.

    • 5). Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Clean inside the rim of the top and bottom case of the iPod Mini using the cotton swab.

    • 6). Place the metal clip bracket facing you horizontally. Use the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver to push down hard on each end of the metal clip bracket. Stop pressing against the ends of the metal clip retaining bracket when the entire bracket is straight from one end to the other.

    • 7). Push the two ends of the metal clip retaining bracket slightly back in using the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver. Dip another cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and wipe off the edges of the metal clip retaining bracket.

    • 8). Put the circuit board back into the iPod Mini's case. Place the metal clip retaining bracket back into position in the bottom of the iPod Mini's case. Use the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver to push out the two clips at each end of the metal clip retaining bracket until they click into place. Reattach the copper connector. Reattach the bottom and top covers onto the iPod Mini's case. Reassemble the iPod Mini and use it now that the metal clip retaining bracket has been fixed.
