- 1). Place a bucket on the floor, directly below the toilet’s water supply line. Twist the water valve’s handle clockwise with your hand, stopping once you can no longer turn the handle.
- 2). Press the toilet’s handle once, flushing most of the water out of the toilet’s tank. Lift off the toilet tank’s cover and place it carefully on the floor away from the toilet. Suck the remaining water in the toilet’s tank out with a shop vacuum.
- 3). Clamp a pair of adjustable pliers to the nylon nut that secures the old water supply line to the underside of the toilet tank. Turn the nut counterclockwise until it unthreads from its connection, separating the water supply line from the connection on the toilet tank.
- 4). Clamp an adjustable wrench to the nut that connects the water supply line to the toilet’s water valve. Turn the nut counterclockwise until it unthreads and the water supply line comes free. Catch any leftover water in the supply line with the bucket.
- 5). Thread the new water supply line’s connections onto the water valve and toilet tank using your hand, tightening the connections with the adjustable wrench and pliers. Turn the water valve’s handle counterclockwise as far as you can, refilling the toilet’s tank.
