Vaishno Devi Temple is situated near the town of Katra in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The shrine is approximately 12 kilometers far from Katra. Every year, 8 million pilgrims visit this temple. Jammu airport is the nearest from here, and leading domestic airlines too.

You can reach to Jammu to travel by bus, taxi, train or plane.More traveller come in the season of summer. And also the special train starts in this season. Jammu is joint by national highway 1, so you can reach to Jammu easily by bus or taxi. The base camp to reach the "Vaishnodevi mandir", "Katra" is the first camp. Total distance from Jammu to Katra is 50km. Between Katra to Jammu there are bus facility available. Many buses available from Jammu to Katra, and you can reach Katra from Jammu in 2 hours. If you travel by taxi, you can reach Katra from Jammu in 1 hour.
Journey of Vaishnodevi starts from the Katra. Many people start the journey after taking rest in Katra. Distance of Bhairavnath mandir from cave is about 8 km.
Traveller ascent on mountain full night. Traveller can take free receipt from Katra to visit the Vaishnodevi mandir. After taking the free receipt you will have to take entry in "Baan ganga check point". After checking of your luggage you can start your ascent on mountain.
Your receipt can expire if you will not entry within 3 hours at check point. So please always notice that, you should take receipt when you start the journey. Those people not able to ascent on mountain can take paalki and horse. Between the ascents there are breakfast or food available for traveller, you can purchase it.
Now a days vaishnodevi yatra is also done with the help of helicopter which are provided by pawan hanse and global vector.
Important thing:
- Best season to visit here is summer.
- Please avoid the season of winter, because there is snow fall in this season and also have risk to skip the mountain.
- Patient of blood pressure avoid the stairs.
- Please take minimum baggage.
- Tracking suit is more comfortable in travelling.

- Air port: Nearest airport to reach Vaishnidevi is Jammu and Srinagar.
- Train: The main railway station to reach here is Jammutavi, Pathankoat and Amritsar. You reach Katra by road from these railway stations.
- Road: From Jammu to Katra total distance is 48 km. From Katra to Vaishnodevi total walking distance is 13km. Total distance from Delhi- 663km.
