Using moving pads actually gives you two forms of protection for your furniture and appliances - time and money.
Knowing how the professional movers use their pads, ropes and tapes will be of great help as you prepare for your next move.
If you are moving on a budget, it is wise to wrap as much of your furniture yourself to save moving time.
Since many movers charge by the hour this little bit of prep work could save you hundreds.
The first thing to remember when you are getting ready to move is to break down your furniture in parts so that they can load easily onto the truck.
If this is not easily done then leave the furniture in tact but secure any parts that could easily snap off.
Be sure to place any bolts or screws in a zip type bag and tape them with packing tape to the furniture itself.
This will allow you to easily re-assemble it on the other end.
The best way that I have found to secure moving pads around furniture is with either the use of a good packing tape or with the large rubber bands that many moving supply companies carry.
Center the furniture pad over the top of the item, such as a bookshelf, table, armoire or refrigerator.
Let it naturally drape over the object.
Tuck in the corners and wrap the entire "body" of the furniture with the tape or bands.
If the object is tall then you will need to wrap a second moving pad around its middle and secure in the same manner.
The key here is that the moving pads are held securely in place with the tape or bands.
Since you tuck in the corners (like wrapping a gift package) you give extra padding to those areas so that they don't get scuffed up.
Moving pads are an inexpensive investment.
When you consider the cost of the furniture that you are moving then you will understand that a little investment in the proper material and the time to adequately wrap it will help you save money both in the cost of the move and the potential cost of replacing damaged furniture that has not been protected with moving pads.
