How to Run Copper Pipe in a Metal Stud

Horizontal Copper Pipe Installation in Metal Studs

    • 1). Measure the outside diameter of the copper pipe. Install a hole saw in a drill motor that is 1/2 inch larger than the measured pipe diameter.

    • 2). Drill a hole at each horizontal location where the pipe will penetrate the side of the metal stud. Set the drill aside.

    • 3). Push the tapered end of the rubber grommet in one of the drilled holes until the flanged section of the grommet sits tight to the face of the metal stud. Insert a rubber grommet into each of the remaining drilled holes.

    • 4). Slide a length of copper pipe through the opening in the center of the rubber grommets.

Vertical Copper Pipe Installation in Metal Studs

    • 1). Push the ring section of the plastic pipe hanger over the plastic pipe. Repeat the process to secure a second pipe hanger to the copper pipe.

    • 2). Slide the pipe against the face of the metal stud. Ensure the flat section of each pipe hanger sits against the stud.

    • 3). Run one self-tapping screw through each of the mounting holes located on the base of the pipe hanger with a screw gun. Secure the remaining pipe hangers to hold the copper pipe to the face of the metal studs.
