- Windows and doors without proper weatherstripping allow heat to escape and cold air to enter your home, and even small cracks can cause a big draft. Save a money every month in home energy costs by properly insulating your windows and doors. If you feel a draft or if your home is much colder near windows and doors, invest in some simple weatherstripping supplies. Installation is easy, and you can do it yourself.
- The bottoms of doors can be fitted with a door sweep, and the sides and tops with self-adhesive foam. Windows can also be weatherstripped with self-adhesive foam, or V-channel weatherstripping, which must be secured with finish nails. All items are easy to find at your local home improvement store and are affordable.
- Cut the door sweep to fit the width of the door, and then screw it into place with the provided hardware. Cut self-adhesive tape to size, and peel off the backing and stick it to a clean surface along the edges of doors or windows. Nail cut-to-size V-channel weatherstripping into the space between the sash stiles and jamb of double-hung windows.
