- 1). Measure 4 inches down from the top of the porcelain tile, and also measure 1 inch from each outside edge. Place a piece of duct tape over these areas, and mark the two drilling points with a permanent marker. The duct tape will steady the drill bit as it drills the tile.
- 2). Fit a variable-speed drill with a diamond-tipped drill bit. Drill at the taped and marked point--at the lowest speed possible (around 100 revolutions per minute). To avoid shattering the porcelain tile, do not push on the drill while drilling.
- 3). Dip the drill bit in cutting oil to keep the bit from overheating. Every 15 seconds, stop drilling and re-oil the bit. Wipe the bit clean with a rag before you resume drilling.
- 4). Wipe any accumulated dust off the porcelain tile after the holes are completed, and remove the duct tape.
- 5). Cut a 50-inch length of size 4 hanging wire with wire cutters. Thread the hanging wire through the drilled holes in the porcelain tile so that the ends of the wire meet behind the tile. Pull the wire so that it is nearly taut (but not completely taut), and twist the ends of the hanging wire around each other with a pair of pliers.
- 6). Hang the porcelain tile by its hanging wire from a three-nail picture-hanging hook.
