Replace the filters, the dust bag and the belt often. Remember, unplug the unit maybe go to YouTube and watch one of my videos. Filters are easy to replace and will when replaced dramatically restore the suction to your unit. Same thing with dust bags, a new bag will increase the suction however it is airflow that cleans your carpets and barefloors.
Replacing the belt is tricky, be ready for sticky goo, belts stretch an awful lot. Sometimes a couple inches. It is important to replace belts that stretch every six months if it is a geared belt, it does not need to be replaced until it breaks.
Now the hose, if the hose is clogged reverse the hose and see if you can remove the obstruction. Drop a quarter or a ball bearing through the hose to see if it is still clogged and never stick anything in the hose to unclog it. Leave advanced repairs to the professionals. It might save your life. Be safe.
