Installing a Cover on an In-ground Pool

    • 1). Stretch the pool cover over the pool, placing water buckets or other heavy objects at each corner to hold the cover in place.

    • 2). Adjust the cover so the correct amount overlaps each side. For instance, for covers that have 5-by-5 strap spacing, the cover should overlap 10 to 15 inches. For covers with 3-by-3 strap spacing, the cover will overlap 15 to 22 inches, according to Ameri-Brand Products Inc.

    • 3). Install the cover anchors 18 inches from the edge of the pool cover, ensuring each anchor is in line with the straps. Install springs or straps for the anchors you installed and tighten until they have compressed by one-half their lengths.

    • 4). Secure the center straps of the pool cover first, working out toward the corners and pulling the cover taut over the pool. Check that the springs are not compressed more than 50 percent.
