- 1). Sand all the wooden parts of the train table. Make sure the wood is smooth and then brush the sawdust off the wood thoroughly.
- 2). Coat the wood in a layer of primer. This will help the paint adhere to the wood. Allow the primer to dry completely according to the instructions found on the canister.
- 3). Apply a layer of paint or stain to the wood. Try to apply your paint evenly on all pieces of the table.
- 4). Allow the paint to dry. Once the paint or stain is dry, determine whether the color is dark enough. If not, apply another layer of paint or stain.
- 5). Apply a layer of sealant to the table to protect the wood from water damage and scratches. Let the sealer dry before following the directions that came with the table to put it together.
