- 1). Have a frank and open discussion with your primary care doctor about your alternatives. There are many different ways to battle cancer, ranging from surgery to chemotherapy to radiation treatment to other experimental and alternative forms of treatment, so the best place to start is with your family physician. You don't have to take his advice, but you should at least attempt to hear him out fully before making further decisions.
- 2). Conduct your own research online regarding the treatment options that you feel are best suited to your particular situation. Finding a particular cancer treatment is primarily about finding something that will offer you the best shot at curing cancer, but it is also about finding a treatment option with which you feel comfortable. Remember that this is your life and you have the right to make your own health care decisions, so do not get pressured into following a course of action in which you do not believe in wholeheartedly.
- 3). Search online to find the closest hospital near you that specializes in the type of cancer you have. Obviously, budget might play a role in limiting your treatment options, but you always should aim to have your treatment conducted at the best hospital you can afford. This is a fight for your life, so do not settle for second best.
