- Myxer has an extensive library of over 13 million pieces of media content comprised of both licensed and user-submitted items. The site frequently features up-and-coming artists in addition to commercial partnerships with familiar brands, including GEICO and Toyota Camry. Users are also treated to special categories with fun content, such as the Stompin’ Grounds section of ringtones with songs dedicated to well-known U.S. cities. Although the site is not a subscription service, Myxer charges a fee for any premium content.
- Both cell phone manufacturers and service providers have the authority to limit how free downloaded content can be used on your device. While most T-Mobile phones have no restrictions, the Sidekick is not compatible with Myxer ringtones. You are still able to download ringtone files, but the ability to select the file and apply it in your audio settings is disabled on the Sidekick. The reasons for disabling this feature are unclear. Due to the T-Mobile Sidekick’s popularity, the manufacturer or service provider likely enacted limitations to encourage the purchase of ringtones from partner companies.
- If the Myxer library doesn’t have the media you want, you can use the “Make Your Own” feature to create custom content. Myxer offers users the option to trim ringtone audio and edit the volume. Despite the ringtone restrictions, T-Mobile Sidekick owners can still take advantage of this feature to make personalized cell phone wallpapers. Upload photos or other images saved on your computer and the website instantly generates a link to download your file. In some cases, it’s necessary to manually reduce the image size in order to match the picture dimensions to your phone’s screen.
- Myxer sends the content to your phone in a standard text or picture message, depending on the device you have. An embedded link directs to you the download, and for this reason, the phone must have Internet access to accept the content. Afterwards, you should be able to save your wallpaper, apps and videos and access them from the corresponding menus in your phone. It’s helpful to review your phone’s service terms, as they may include fees for using the Internet and receiving text messages.
