1.Empty buildings
Empty properties can mean a lot of things, not many of them are good. It may mean that many people in the neighborhood are suffering financially so they're losing their homes. It may mean that there's something about the neighborhood that's objectionable and is causing people to leave and sell their homes. For example, if their houses often get burglarized, or if there are a lot of disturbances in the neighborhood caused by delinquents, gangs, criminals and the likes, it's naturally going to make home owners rethink their options and just sell the house to live in a more peaceful neighborhood. Not to mention that having too many empty houses in the vicinity pulls the value of the houses there down.
2.Neighborhood quality
Are there many unlit alleys, broken street lamps and dark corners? These things can really attract criminal activity. Vandalized buildings and such are bad signs.
3.Homes Poorly Maintained
If the people in the neighborhood have unkempt lawns, dirty and damaged homes and the likes, it gives the impression that they don't really bother much about the neighborhood. It's certainly not an encouraging sight for home buyers because unlike while you were renting, it will be much harder to just pick up your stuff and leave if you don't like your neighbors or neighborhood.
