Aren't we lucky we didn't elect John McCain as president? Imagine the pickle we'd be in.
McCain probably would have botched it up from the get-go with his Cabinet nominations.
Let's see ...
we'll just pluck some important post out of the clear blue sky as a theoretical example ...
secretary of Health and Human Services! In other words, the health care czar.
We bet McCain would have selected someone who, though being a law firm adviser, somehow "overlooked" having to pay $140,000 in taxes owed for a Cadillac limo chauffeuring service as part of a sweetheart $1 million consulting deal from a pal, and who had lobbied for this very same pal to receive a high position in the administration.
Imagine nominating someone like that! Or of choosing retreads from a previous administration as McCain probably would do or old cronies from the Senate after promising a fresh new look, and changing the way Washington does business.
Or something else McCain probably would have done ...
nominating someone for Secretary of State whom he had derided in the campaign as a cookie baker ...
someone who lacked knowledge and experience in foreign affairs.
Then think of how upset people would be when McCain probably would have gotten himself into a scandal right off the bat with one of his old cohorts ...
let's say a governor ...
and remember, we're just speculating here ...
who had schemed to get money in exchange for political favors, and who probably would have to be impeached.
Or that he would have chosen as his top aide a congressman who had served as the de facto campaign manager of that very same governor.
Imagine the uproar! And what kind of dire economic straits would we stuck with under McCain? We bet the U.
S.
automakers would have seen their sales fall off a cliff in January despite the "Messiah" having been inaugurated.
Chrysler's sales would probably have plunged by, oh, let's say 55 percent, General Motors' by 49 percent, Ford's by 40 percent.
Remember, we're just closing our eyes and dreaming what would have happened.
Militarily, what would McCain have done ...
well, he'd probably try to sneak it by the public by maneuvering in a low key way but we think he'd slip tens of thousands of additional troops into Afghanistan to escalate the fighting there.
Imagine the brouhaha that would stir up! And the media ...
our precious, beloved Fourth Estate ...
they'd no doubt be furious with McCain already for attempting to manipulate them with lack of access, refusal to answer questions, stage managing appearances, etc.
Whew! What a close call we had with probity by not electing McCain.
