- Having a pool can be a wonderful thing when the temperatures start soaring. There's nothing quite as relaxing as floating on a raft in your own backyard during the warm summer months. What can be far less relaxing, though, is the seemingly constant maintenance a pool requires. But with the proper understanding, even taking care of your pool can be a snap.
- The filter can keep your pool in perfect working order, even while you're floating or playing in it. Keeping your pool clean can be as easy as flipping a switch.
Just how long to run your pool filter is an important question. Given the different pools out there -- above-ground vs. in-ground, big vs. small -- it would seem a difficult equation to figure out.
Turns out, it's pretty simple. According to the staff at Lavoie Pools in Concord, New Hampshire, a family-owned pool installation and maintenance business, a filter should be run for at least eight hours per day. Ideally, one staff member said, the filter should run for 12 hours.
And it doesn't matter how big or small or whether the pool is above or in-ground, the staff member said.
If your pool is particularly dirty, the filter can run for 24 hours consecutively. In fact, according to the question-and-answer section on Lavoie's website, many pumps and pool filters are designed to run for 24 hours.
Many pool filters can even be programmed to go on and off on their own, making it that much easier for you to set an 8- or 12-hour schedule while you are at work or away from your home.
If you are concerned about the schedule for your pool filter, find the nearest pool supply store and call or stop by.
Run your filter for at least eight hours a day and you'll be certain to maximize the cleanliness of your pool. Imagine how much more relaxed you'll be the next time you hop on the inflatable raft with that peace of mind in your back pocket.
