- 1). Consider the theme of your home. Do you want your door to blend in or stand out? Do you want your door to represent your family or just look a little more updated? Do you want to add a window to the door or over the door? Decide this before embarking on your design.
- 2). Measure the current door or the front door space if your house is being built. Make sure you measure the door from top to bottom and from left to right. Also measure the width between the door jambs. If adding something such as a window overhead, measure on the structure (or house frame) how long and tall it should be.
- 3). Draw your door. Take into consideration your measurements and clearly mark them so you, or the person crafting your door, will know where everything goes.
- 4). Add extras. Place the window in the drawing either overhead or on the door itself. Make sure this is clearly marked and that it is clear how many inches are around the window itself (if the window is in the door), or how many inches between the window and door (if the door is overhead).
- 5). Color your door design with colored pencils or mark which paint color(s) you will be using. Armed with your new door design, start working on your new door or take it to your contractor who will put your design into reality.
