- 1). Disconnect the garage door emergency release lever. This latch is typically released by pulling the rope hanging from the latch mechanism to disengage the opener drive chain from the garage door's lift arm.
- 2). Open the garage door manually until the bottom of the door is just above eye level.
- 3). Remove the nails in the existing bottom gasket with a hammer and pry bar.
- 4). Determine the overall width of the garage door with a tape measure. Using a utility knife, cut the new bottom gasket to this measurement plus 1 inch.
- 5). Hold the new bottom gasket against the bottom of the garage door, allowing approximately ½ inch to extend beyond the edge of the door. Attach the gasket with plastic-top astragal nails or galvanized roofing nails, beginning 1 inch from the door edge and spaced about 12 inches apart, across the full width of the door bottom.
- 6). Lower the garage door to verify that the door bottom seals fully to the slab surface. Trim the excess gasket at each side of the door so it is flush with the door edge.
- 7). Close the garage door, then reengage the garage door emergency release by pulling down on the locking lever's pull rope to lock the gear tab into the opener's drive track.
