What if you just dont have time to spend at the spa, or is it too far to drive to get there? What if your doctor suggests you need to soak in a hot tub to relieve joint pain? Maybe you just want your own hot tub in the privacy of your own back yard. When purchasing a hot tub, make sure you do your home work first. Make the experience fun for the entire family. Here are a few tips on choosing the right hot tub for you.
1. First decide what size hot tub will be suitable for you. Consider how many people will be using the hot tub at the same time. Are you intending on soaking away back pain alone or with your spouse, or are you planning big hot tub parties. A rule of thumb in determining the size of a hot tub to purchase is to multiply 75 gallons of water by the number of people that will be in the hot tub at the same time to get the total water capacity. Keep in mind when deciding the size, the larger the hot tub the more expanse you will incur.
2. Deciding what type of hot tub to purchase is the next important decision to make. Consider how many jets you want and whether or not you want hydrotherapy jets or not. A good hydrotherapy hot tub can reduce stress and massage tension as well as loosen stiff joints. Some hot tubs just blow air that circulates the water around the hot tub and does not massage. Other types push water out of the jets and hit the body for a good massage. Make sure the position of the jets is in a good location and are adjustable.
3. Check and see what material the hot tub is constructed from. A good hot tub is made with an acrylic shell, which is long lasting and easy to take care of. Acrylic is made of one entire piece and is more scratch resistance. Make sure the understructure is solid fiberglass or foam for proper support and insulation. The cabinet or outside walls of the hot tub should be constructed of wood or a synthetic wood and should be removable for easy access for servicing. The interior frame should be constructed with a 2 x 4 or metal frame.
4. There will be addition costs when it comes to purchasing a hot tub. You will probably need a dedicated 240 volt electric outlet for the pump and a gas connection for the heater.
5. Decided where to locate your hot tub. The hot tub needs to be placed on a flat sturdy surface. Since a hot tub weighs about 5000 pounds or more when completely filled with water, concrete would make the best base for a hot tub. Ensure this location can withstand 100 to 150 pounds per square foot. Also consider placing the hot tub no further than 50 feet away from the main water source, as you may have a loose in water pressure for the jets. Also decide if you want your hot tub in the shape, by patio furniture or in an area that has easy access to changing areas.
Buying a hot tub should be a fun experience and should not be cause for worry or stress. After all, the purpose of having a hot tub is to relax and unwind, not increase stress levels.
