- Make sure your GE washer isn't unplugged if the machine won't power on. If your machine has power but no water supply, ensure that the water supply wasn't turned off. If your controls are not set properly, your unit may not work. Make sure the cycle knob is pulled out to the "On" position. Remember that your washer will not spin or drain, for safety reasons, if the lid is open. It is always a good idea to check that a circuit breaker has not tripped or a fuse has not blown if you do not have power to your unit.
- If the water in your GE washer is not the temperature you would want, or expect, check the water temperature control, and adjust it to the desired temperature. If this does not solve your problem, make sure the water supply wasn't accidentally turned off or was connected incorrectly. It's a good idea to clean the water valve screens. Use a brush or a toothpick to clean them. If you still do not get the correct water temperature, make sure that the water heater in your house is set to deliver water somewhere between 120 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Your GE washer may not drain correctly if the drain hose has a kink in it. Once you straighten it, it's a good idea to make sure the washer is not sitting on the hose, pinching it closed. Also ensure that the drain hose is properly connected to the machine. Don't forget that the top of the drain hose needs to be less than 8 feet above the floor. Anything higher than that will cause draining problems.
- If your drain hose or your fill hoses are not connected to your GE washer correctly, you may experience water leakage. Check all hose connections, and make sure the hoses are inserted properly. Another source of your leaks may be that your household drain may be clogged. Call a plumber if you can't clear the clogs on your own. You may also need to replace your fill hoses. They tend to wear out about every 5 years.
