Peyronie's Cure

    No Treatment

    • Because the condition often remedies itself, doctors commonly recommend men with Peyronie's disease delay treatment for up to 12 months. During that time, the doctor monitors the condition during periodic checkups. If the scar tissue worsens, the curvature becomes more pronounced or pain becomes more intense, treatment options are considered.

    Medications

    • The first line of treatment for Peyronie's disease is usually medication. Colchicine is commonly prescribed. Another treatment is a series of injections containing a calcium channel blocker, collagenase or interferon. These medications either stop the accumulation of collagen or disintegrate any scar tissue within the penis. This can reduce the curvature and ease the pain.

There is also some indication that vitamin E and potassium aminobenzoate may be effective treatments

    Surgical Procedure

    • If surgery is required, men with Peyronie's disease have three options. The first is having linear cuts in the scar tissue, which can allow the penis to straighten. The second is shortening the "normal" tissue to match that which is scarred, which usually straightens the penis. The third is implanting a device to aid in an erection, which also helps straighten the penis.
