Unlike in public vehicles, all you do is sit, enjoy the ride, and wait. You don't get to encounter problems like you're running out gas, following or heading to wrong directions, or whatnot. But, you also need to remember that there are risks and considerations to be made in riding one since you ride with a lot of different people. With that in mind, below is a non-exhaustive list of guidelines in riding public vehicles. It's regarding what things you should keep in mind, what things you should do, what things you shouldn't do, and why.
Sit the amount you pay for. I know it sounds silly, but if you think about it, it's not. A lot of people riding public vehicles are a bit insensitive. They tend to sit very comfortably that they seem to forget there are also other people to consider. An example is a guy, who tends to occupy two seats while riding a bus. It's not because he's a big-boned man or something but because he was sitting with legs wide open. We all know it's free seating, but you also have to be considerate of others— who, like you, paid for the ride. Sit comfortably, but fit yourself in the amount of your seat. Don't act as if you paid for the whole vehicle unless you really did.
Be comfortable. This is the secret for you to enjoy your ride. Though it's a bit hard to be comfortable while trying to fit yourself in, try to be comfortable still. Do what you think will make you feel comfortable, but always remember to be considerate.
Stay alert. As much as you want to be comfortable, you also have to stay alert. Make a balance between the two. Since you're riding with different people (i.e. people you don't know), you have to stay mindful of your surroundings. I know it's wrong to think badly of others, but we also need to take extra measures for ourselves. Not everywhere is a safe place. You might encounter pickpockets on the way, or some other bad guys, so remember to be attentive. Take care of your valuables. And, as much as possible, don't sleep. No matter how tired you are, or how long the ride will be, it's best if you're aware of what is happening around you. So, there's no sleeping.
Don't do things without considering other people. Don't smoke. Don't munch your food too loud if you're eating inside the public vehicle. Be mindful of your trash. If you're with your friends, don't chat with each other or laugh with each other like you're the only passengers in whatever vehicle you are riding. And, don't do things you think will put you in trouble with other passengers. It comes back to being considerate. Try to be in your best behavior since you are with other people. In some movies it shows the proper way to be polite and generoues in elders and ladies.
