    • 2). Pull back on the sliding plate at the top of the Ruger with your fingers. Verify that there is no ammunition in the now open firing chamber. Release the sliding plate.

    • 3). Insert the tip of a flat-edged screwdriver into the seam beneath the metal locking mechanism on the back edge of the handle near the hammer. Lift up the tip of the flat-edged screwdriver to loosen the metal locking mechanism from the back edge. Repeat this at the lower edge of the metal locking mechanism near the butt of the handle.

    • 4). Pull the metal locking mechanism off the back edge of the handle. Put the metal locking mechanism aside.

    • 5). Pull the barrel assembly off the top of the Ruger pistol with your hands. Put the frame of the Ruger pistol on the soft cloth.

    • 6). Point the back end of the barrel assembly down to cause the barrel tube to fall out on the soft cloth.

    • 7). Slide the bolt off the barrel tube with your fingers. Remove the spring from the barrel tube with your fingers.

    • 8). Apply gun solvent to the brush end of the cleaning brush.

    • 9). Hold the barrel assembly by the middle in your right hand. Hold the cleaning brush in your left hand. Insert the barrel cleaning brush, brush end first, into one end of the barrel assembly. Push the barrel cleaning brush through the length of the barrel assembly, twisting it clockwise between your fingers as you do so.

Hold the barrel assembly by the middle in your right hand. Hold the cotton swab in your left hand. Inset the cotton swab into one end of the barrel assembly. Push the cotton swab through the length of the barrel assembly, twisting it clockwise between your fingers as you do so.

    • 12

Remove the cotton swab from the barrel assembly. Repeat this entire process but put the cotton swab into the other end of the barrel assembly. Discard the cotton swab.

    • 13

Wipe off the spring with the lint free cloth. Put the spring back on the barrel tube. Apply gun lubricating oil to the length of the spring. Put the bolt back on the barrel tube. Put the barrel tube back into the barrel assembly.

    • 14

Apply gun lubricating oil to the open chamber at the top of the Ruger pistol's frame.

    • 15

Angle the metal bar in the open chamber at the top of the Ruger pistol's frame toward the hammer. Put the barrel assembly back into the frame. Pull the trigger to reset the metal bar.

    • 16

Reattach the metal locking mechanism to the back edge of the handle, starting at the top near the hammer and pushing the metal locking mechanism down into the back edge.

    • 17

Pull back on the sliding plate to verify that the gun is now reassembled correctly. Insert the magazine cartridge back into the bottom of the Ruger pistol.
