Attracting birds to your lawn and garden can be so much fun.
It is really fairly easy once you know what to do.
By trial and error I have found it to be not only fun but also very rewarding.
Start out small and work toward a larger goal.
Putting out a few bird feeders with some bird food from you local store, add a birdbath and a couple of bird houses this will bring birds to your yard.
Once you have the birds coming to your yard, you will really love seeing the different types of birds and hearing the songs they sing.
Seeing them eat from your feeders and bathing in your birdbaths is very enjoyable and rewarding.
Before you spend too much time and money you will want to research the birds that are native to your region of the country.
A bird reference book will give you a lot of the information you need.
Most states have their own book of the birds in their region.
There is also lots of web sites that are informative about birds and the food and plants they like.
You will need to have plants that are native to you region, different birds have different dietary needs as well as nesting and shelter needs.
Another good thing to know is as the seasons change so do the needs of you birds, different trees, shrubs and plants will provide different things for your birds in different seasons.
Be sure you research and provide the needs of the birds in your area, and remember that once you start feeding the birds, they will become dependent on you to provide for them.
The birds love plants and they love the seeds from plants.
It is natural to want to trim and clip your plants to make them look better in your garden, however this is not recommended when you are trying to attract birds.
You will need to let your plants go to seed, so the birds will have them for food.
Your garden may not look as great as you would like but the birds will love you for it.
When planning your lawn and garden for your birds be sure to look at what you already have.
You most likely have some of the plants that your birds will like.
You don't need to change everything at once.
Adding plants, trees and shrubs takes time and sometimes several seasons.
Go slowly and find what you and your birds will love.
Birds also need a water source or two.
Place your water sources close to your feeding stations and nesting areas.
A lovely garden fountain will not only give you a water source for your birds but will give you the relaxing sounds of running water.
Add a couple birdbaths and your birds will be coming back for more.
Always keep your water sources clean so you will not have bacteria that may harm the birds.
Birds are shy and like protective places, shaded areas and ground covers are good examples.
Hang your bird feeders and birdhouses in trees or near shaded areas, this will help them feel safe.
By adding things birds need and like, you will bring the birds to your yard and have a lovely place to relax and watch the wonders of nature.
Watching the birds is not only enjoyable but also relaxing, so take time to enjoy them as you plan your lawn and garden.
