Consumerism, on a broader scale, is merely a concept which suggests that market place itself is responsible for ensuring economic justice and fairness in society. And to be precise it is that the consumer must make informed decisions without fear and apprehensions. With the availability of widespread choices for the consumer to opt from, there comes much chances of many ambiguous functionaries operating and misleading the consumer.

India has always been a €golden-bird€ and each looks at us with the staring eyes to cash the richness and opportunities we hold. So far India has emerged as the major attraction for the marketers because of presence of people having healthy disposable income. Though the consumption pattern in India is as diversified as the culture of India. But it is the consumption culture that influence the quality of life and standard of living in a strong way. Because it has a deep effect on both individual and the society.

According to Mr. Kislay Pandey- Lawyer Supreme Court of India "Every decision we make in the marketplace or anything that has an impact in driving the way to consumption has an ethical content. The ethical concerns are out of the personal and social system one belongs to, and not out of law. But the question arises here is whether the public legitimacy need to outline ethical behaviour or the Consumer Law is the appropriate means to achieve such purposes. There is a stain on the role Govt. in shaping the consumption habits as there is no unanimity about role of Law in amplification of ethical conducts."

The corporate matters advocate further added that, "Initially the Consumer law was framed to protect the consumer from any sort of exploitation in the market. Many the welfare groups and societies mushroomed up and shouted loud to make people aware about the rights granted to the people by the government of India. But there is also a need to expand the Legal proportions to guide the consumer behaviour so as to keep the equilibrium stable from the both ends." The laws are the most effective not when the person is given all the rights, but the true potential of law is delivered when the rights are accompanied with certain responsibilities. This is important to regulate the justified system for the sake of progressive consumerism.

Few regulatory interventions from the law are necessary to embark the ethical consumption. All the lawful implementations in this regard will boost the confidence in society by sustaining the balance between personal freedom and public interest. And the citizens will be privileged to have the proper moral code of conduct and not the creatures deprived of ethical character. It is also good for the society as a whole to be engaged in an environment where there is much room for the ethical consumption by the people in legally disciplined manner.
