- 1). Secure a practice room without a stage to work with the children on the song. The stage may distract the children, so it should not be introduced until the song is learned.
- 2). Instruct the children to sit in rows of chairs while learning the song. Rehearse the children singing with a recording of the song. The recording will help guide the children through the song until they are comfortable with it.
- 3). Finish each day of rehearsal with the children singing their song without the recording. Do this until they can sing the whole song without the help of the recording.
- 4). Set up the practice space the same way the stage will be set up for the performance. Use masking tape to mark lines or X's on the floor for the children to stand on.
- 5). Rehearse the children in the practice room standing in their spaces and singing the song without any assistance from the recording. Instruct the children to keep their arms to their sides and to stay in their assigned spot on the floor. Position adult assistants on each side of the group to help guide them while singing.
- 6). Set up the stage the same way the rehearsal space was set up. Mark the stage with masking tape for the children to stand on.
- 7). Bring the children to the stage for their first rehearsal. Allow time for the children to get used to standing on the stage, as this may be frightening for them at first.
- 8). Rehearse the song several times on stage with the auditorium lights on until the children are comfortable singing on stage.
- 9). Turn the auditorium lights off and stage lights on for dress rehearsal. The children will benefit from seeing the stage exactly as it will be when they perform.
- 10
Suggest parents ensure their child has a nap the day of the performance. If children are well rested, they are less inclined to be nervous or fussy during the performance. - 11
Position two adult assistants on stage to sing the song along with the children if they need extra help during the actual performance. - 12
Position the director of the children's group on the floor in front of the stage to direct the children and sing along with them. If the children forget the words, they can look at the director for help.
