- 1). Remove the floor trim from around the perimeter of the floor with your hammer and prybar, keeping it intact as you take it out. Set it aside.
- 2). Mop the ceramic floor thoroughly with household floor cleanser. Let it dry completely.
- 3). Roll out plastic foam underlayment over the side of the floor where you want to start. Cut it to size with a razor knife.
- 4). Lay the first course of floating flooring alongside the wall, snapping them together end to end and putting shims between the boards and the wall to create a roughly ¼ inch space there. Use a miter saw to cut the final board in the course as needed.
- 5). Lay the second course alongside the first, snapping the boards together by their long edges. Arrange the boards so the ends don't line up between courses.
- 6). Repeat for each course, working your way across the room course by course. Roll out more plastic underlayment as needed. Cut the last board of each course on a table saw to fit at the end of each course.
- 7). Cut the final course of boards on a table saw, length-wise, to leave a ¼- to 3/8-inch space between the cut boards and the wall.
- 8). Reinstall your floor trim, using your hammer and finishing nails. The trim will hide the small spaces around the perimeter.
