How to Make a Photography Light Box

    • 1). Cut the top off the cardboard box, leaving an open top with no overhanging pieces.

    • 2). Measure 1 or 2 inches from the edge of the box on one side and mark the location. Work your way around all four edges of that side of the box marking the measurement. You will be creating a rectangle 1 to 2 inches smaller than the dimensions of the box.Use the ruler to mark the rectangle then use a utility knife to cut it out. Repeat this process for all four sides of the box.

    • 3). Cut the bristol board to the width of the box with scissors, then place the board inside the box, resting one end against the inside front edge of the box. Place the other end against the back top edge of the box so that the board lays almost flat against the bottom of the box with a slight curve toward the back. Mark the board at the top edge of the box and cut the excess off. Use tape to secure the board at the top edge.

    • 4). Cut some fabric to cover the top, right, left and back holes of the box so that it overlaps slightly, then use tape to secure it in place.

    • 5). Screw a daylight bulb into your light fixture and clamp it to the top of the box so that it shines down into the box evenly. You can now place your item inside the box and take photographs through the front hole.
