- 1). Turn off the water supply to the shower, using the water valves located in the access panel behind the shower wall. Look for the access panel in the room directly behind the shower, against the shower-facing wall.
- 2). Locate the small screw holding the handle of your faucet in place. You can find the screw beneath a flat cover in the center of the handle. Remove the cover by prying it up with a flat head screwdriver. Remove the screw using a Phillips screwdriver, then pull the handle from the faucet assembly. You should be able to see the cartridge assembly with the removal of the faucet.
- 3). Use a pair of pliers to remove the nut from the top of the cartridge assembly holding the assembly in place.
- 4). Grasp the stem of the cartridge assembly with a pair of needlenose pliers. Pull the cartridge from the faucet. If the cartridge does not slide right out, look around the upper edge for a small retaining pin passing through the cartridge horizontally, holding it in place. Remove the pin with the pliers, and then pull the cartridge free.
- 5). Take the cartridge to a home improvement store and purchase a replacement of the same model.
- 6). Line the notches on the replacement cartridge body with those in the faucet assembly. Slide the cartridge into the faucet assembly, and then replace the retaining pin, if present, and the nut holding the cartridge in place.
- 7). Return the faucet to its place over the cartridge, and screw it in securely. Pop the cover to the faucet back in place, hiding the screw to complete the repair process.
- 8). Restore the water and then turn on the faucet. There should no longer be a leak with the cartridge replaced. Use the faucet as normal.
