- 1). Contact your health plan. Health insurance companies maintain directories of doctors who are part of their provider network; most companies provide search tools on their websites, or through their call centers. Contact information for your plan should be available on your health insurance member card or on the company's website.
- 2). Contact the nearest medical school or teaching hospital. All medical schools and teaching hospitals have at least one pediatric neurosurgeon on staff. Although most hospitals place the pediatric neurosurgeon's information in both the pediatrics division and the neurosurgery division, it is best to check both areas to find a pediatric neurosurgeon.
- 3). Use resources developed by certifying organizations. The American Board of Neurological Surgery provides a directory of all certified neurosurgeons, searchable by area code, city, state, zip code or name. The ABNS also sorts neurosurgeons by subspecialty interests, such as pediatric neurosurgery. Full contact information, including office address and telephone numbers are available for each directory listing. The American Board of Pediatric Neurosurgery also provides a complete directory of all board certified pediatric neurosurgeons, but not all diplomates have provided the ABPN with full contact information--usually only institution or city is available--so using this resource requires additional research.
- 4). Find pediatric neurosurgeons through professional membership organizations. Specialty membership organizations, such as the American Association of Neurological Surgeons or the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery, provide membership directories or search tools to find pediatric neurosurgeons in your area. The AANS database allows you to search by city, state, zip code, area code, specialty or type of procedure to find neurosurgeons who specialize in pediatric neurosurgery. Full contact information is available for all members. The ASPN provides a full directory listing, sorted by pediatric neurosurgeons in the U.S., Canada, or other nations. You can look for members in your area and click their names for additional information.
