- 1). Determine the locations for your lights with consideration to the total below surface pool area. Use a tape measure to measure the sides and ends of the pool and find the midpoint for each side. For irregularly-shaped pools, identify mounting locations that will reach into sharps turns and rock features.

Count the number of total light fixtures needed according to the measurements taken and locations identified. Review the wireless lighting options available and buy the lights desired. Buy suction-mounted fixtures so they remain in place without being hard-wired into the side of the pool. - 3). Lay out the light fixtures at the locations identified for them. Reevaluate their placement and confirm or change locations as desired before assembling and mounting them for use. Ensure the bulb strengths are sufficient for lighting the areas where you had envisioned them, if your pool design is anything other than rectangular.

Use the screwdriver(s) and pliers to assemble the light fixtures. Check the parts list sheet with accompanying pictures for each box you open and verify all parts are present before beginning the assembly. Follow the manufacturer's assembly instructions closely, since failing to do so can void warranties. - 5). Test each light fixture as you assemble it for water tightness. Submerge the light face-down in water and watch for air bubbles. Wait at least 60 seconds, and if you see none, flip the light over and repeat the test. If no bubbles are seen, take it out, dry it completely and open it to verify the absence of water. Return all fixtures that fail the water test; they have faulty seals.

Install the batteries paying attention to the battery polarity. Polarity refers to the positive (+) and negative (-) ends of the batteries that are indicated in the battery slots. Mount the lighting fixtures at the most advantageous height on the walls of the pool for maximum fields of light.
