- Create a copper picture to frame and hang on your wall with a section of copper foil, a template, a hammer and a penny nail. You'll also need a wooden board work station for punching the copper.
Cut a section of foil to fit inside your frame and attach it to the wooden board with thumbtacks or nails in the corners. Trace the image you'd like to punch onto a sheet of paper and tape the paper onto the copper foil. Hammer nail holes along the outline of your image, leaving about 1/4 inch between each hole. Follow the outline of your drawing until it's completely covered with nail holes.
Use larger nails to make larger holes, if you like. If so, space the holes a bit further apart. Remember that this is a folk art project; it does not have to be perfect. Frame the copper image for your wall or insert it in the center of a cabinet door. The copper will gain a beautiful patina over time that will add to its charm. - Create a copper flower garden with copper foil, soft copper tubing and enamel paints. You may need a template for the flower blossoms and you'll need sharp household shears or tin snips to cut the copper foil. You'll also need a pipe cutter to cut the tubing into stalks for your flowers and waterproof adhesive to attach the flowers to the stalks.
Trace the outline of the flower blossoms onto the copper foil and cut them out. Make as many different types of flower blossoms as you like. Paint each one with enamel or glass paint as both types of paint have been formulated to adhere to slick surfaces. Follow the instructions on the paint for either baking or air drying the paint.
When your flowers are ready, attach them to the copper tubing stems that you can cut to any length. Clear Liquid Nail is a good choice of adhesive for this project. Let the adhesive dry and place the copper flowers into a planter or straight into the ground in your yard. If you choose a planter, secure the stems in place with decorative stones for outdoor use or floral foam for indoor planters.
