Lapland holidays and the vibrant colours of Lapland

Autumn has arrived in Lapland which means that lots of changes have happened in Lapland which are very noticeable. Lots of changes happen when the seasons in Lapland change but they happen slowly and it isn't until a couple of weeks have passed that we really notice the difference.

Autumn in Lapland see's vibrant colours across the landscape and this is an absolute lovely time to take a Lapland holiday. The mist rises from the lakes and rivers in the early morning and the nights and early mornings are cold and chilly. The vibrant colours of the trees stand out against the beautiful countryside and the locals in Lapland know that the snow is only just around the corner.

The first cross country ski tracks are opened in Lapland on the 1st October, the snow is taken to the tracks and trodden down in order to officially open the tracks in time for tradition. The snows in Lapland may have already arrived by October but the first snows very rarely stick and it is a couple of weeks before the snow accumulated in Lapland.

The animals in Lapland such as the brown bear and the squirrels are busily preparing for winter and although Lapland is very beautiful at the moment, it will soon be transformed into a quiet winter wonderland. The middle of December is the start of the coldest period in Lapland and when Lapland holidays are at their most popular, the days are short and the quiet soft snow falls upon the beautiful Lapland countryside. Winter is a stark contrast to the summer months when the days are long and the locals are very much out and about. The winter time see's the streets very quiet in the evening times largely because holidaymakers and locals have spent a busy day carrying out Lapland activities and are now snuggled up in front of the fire.

The Reindeer in autumn will still be nursing their young which were born in May and they will also be preparing for the winter ahead. The mating season will come first and begin in October when the male Reindeer will become slightly more aggressive. The Reindeer in Lapland are rounded up in the winter months to ensure they have enough food and holidaymakers will not see as many Reindeer as they would in the summer months.

Lapland holidays really are holidays come true and the magic will never leave you, the magic of Christmas and New Year will stay with you for a lifetime and you will never forget your holiday to Lapland.
