Learning WordPress Getting started.
If you want to create a blog, I definitely recommend WordPress.
If you want to create a website based on content management, I still recommend WordPress.
Blogs are the simplest way to get on Google ranking.
Google seems to love blogs with a lot of article content.
WordPress is easy to use and creates a nice looking blog, once you understand it.
The best way to learn WordPress is to 'learn by doing'.
I'm going to teach you how to create a blog the simplest way.
Just follow the instructions step-by-step and you will start to understand how it works.
To get started, you have to decide how you are going to host your blog.
One way is using Free WordPress.
In this way, your blog will be hosted under a sub-domain by WordPress.
com.
It would look something like this...
www.
"examplename".
WordPress.
com.
You can create this free sub-domain by signing up for an account at WordPress.
com.
This free WordPress hosting works, and works well, you just may not have as many options in creating your blog.
Now, we'll go into the instructions on adding content to your page.
At this point, you have your blog set up as - www.
"your user".
WordPress.
com.
You have your profile updated and you're ready to create your blog.
Let's get started...
(You are working in the column on the left - all the blocks have a 'drop-down' arrow.
) (Every time you go to one of the blocks, click on the 'drop-down'.
) First- Choose a theme Go to 'Appearance' Click on 'Themes' You should have a few to choose from, or look under 'Browse Themes' - you can look in 'A-Z', 'Popular', or 'Recently Added' Whichever one you choose, click 'Activate' - it will then become your theme.
Next- Go to 'Posts' Click on 'Posts' You will see- "Hello World" as an existing post Mouse over the title- (Hello World) Click on 'Trash' Next- Go to 'Links' Click on 'Links' You will see 7 links already in your blog, you will want to delete all of these.
Check the box next to 'Name' at the top, (this will check all).
Click on the drop-down arrow at 'Bulk Actions', highlight 'delete' Click 'Apply' Note: At any time, if you want to see what your blog looks like, click on your 'username' at the top left.
This will open your blog site.
Click your 'back' button to come back to WordPress.
At this point, all that is left for you to do is add content, "post", to your blog.
Go to 'Posts' Click on 'Add new' Enter a Title Enter in whatever information you want in the Body.
Notice the 'Upload/Insert' - this is where you can add: Image, Video, Audio, Media, Poll, Custom.
They are self-explanatory but as an example...
Suppose you want to add a file that you have saved on your computer...
Click on the 'Media' (the star-looking thing) A window will open: "Add media files from your computer" At the top, you will see 3 tabs, if you have your file saved, click on 'from computer' Click on 'select flies', follow instructions.
It will upload to your post.
It's that easy...
