Swimming Pool Maintenance- Some effective steps

Swimming pool maintenance is one of the primary things that have to be done if you have a pool. It is not enough to establish a pool; proper care has to be taken of it. This is one thing you have to do religiously because if you don't, a lot of problems might crop up that might require a lot of time, money and energy. There are some steps that can ensure an effective maintenance of your pool.

Shocking Treatment

Sanitization is an important part in swimming pool maintenance. You can either use chlorine or bromine to clean up the pool. But this is not enough. After the cleaning of the pool, a step call the "shocking" of the pool is done. Two weeks before adding chlorine shocking takes place.

This is done to clean after the waste and debris that stays in the pool after the effects of the chlorine wear out. This process is also called oxidization. Through this process all the waste products from the swimmer that pollute the pool such as cosmetics, sun tan lotions, dead skin cells, even urine. It also gets rid of the old chlorine present in the pool.

It is therefore important to check whether a pool has been given shocking treatment or not. If the chlorine smell coming from the pool is intense and it seems cloudy, then evidently the shocker has not been applied. Therefore before applying chlorine again, the pool has to have the shocking treatment.

To check the balance of the water in the pool, it is a good idea to take a small amount of water to the local pool dealership for testing. This can be done every month and is an important part of swimming pool maintenance. This is a good precautionary measure that will help to foresee any problems that could be happening in the water.

It is also important that the water in the pool is circulated daily for eight to twelve hours. Skim and vacuum your pool every week to prevent any contamination and growth of algae. Change of filters regularly is prescribed.
