- 1). Unplug the Whirlpool Cabrio dryer power cord from the dryer outlet. Grab the sides of the dryer and pull it away from the wall so you can work on the rear of the dryer.
- 2). Disconnect the hose clamp that secures the dryer duct to the exhaust port. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to loosen the screw on the clamp and pull the duct away from the dryer.
- 3). Loosen the two screws that secure the cord retaining clamp on the rear of the dryer. This will allow the cord to move freely within the clamp when pulling the rear panel away.
- 4). Locate the nine hex head screws that attach the rear panel to the dryer. Remove the screws with a nut driver and pull the rear panel away from the dryer. Set the rear panel to the right of the dryer so you do not need to disconnect the power cord from the dryer.
- 5). Find the thermostat on the upper left-hand side of the right can. The thermostat is oblong with two wires connecting to the sides. There are two long cans on the back of the dryer, one on the left and one on the right. The can on the right is your heating element can.
- 6). Pull the two wires off the thermostat terminals. Pull the wires by their plastic cover ends when removing. Pulling the wires anywhere else could result in breaking the wires.
- 7). Remove the two screws securing the thermostat to the can with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Twist the thermostat counter-clockwise to unlock the thermostat from the can. Pull the thermostat out of the dryer.
