- 1). Meet the initial eligibility requirements for the NJATC apprenticeship program. You must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED and one year of algebra courses. Further eligibility requirements are set by the NJATC local chapter and may include drug testing, physical examination or a valid driver's license.
- 2). Go to njatc.org and click "Apprenticeship training." Click "Find a training center." Click "PA" in the drop-down menu at the top of the page to access all of the NJATC chapters in Pennsylvania.
- 3). Call your local chapter and request an apprenticeship application. Schedule the aptitude test when you request the application. Send in your application and take the aptitude test. You must pass both the algebra and reading comprehension parts of this test to become eligible for apprenticeship training.
- 4). Schedule your oral interview when the NJATC chapter contacts you after the test. Wait for an opening in the apprenticeship program. Your test scores add you to the waiting list for two years, so you're eligible for any openings in this time frame.
- 5). Choose your apprenticeship specialty: inside lineman, outside lineman, residential wireman or telecommunications installer. The length of your apprenticeship depends on the specialty you choose for your training.
